Alanna: the First Adventure
Compiled by Bonnie Jean- Alan, Lord- Alanna’s father, a scholar
- Alanna of Trebond- 10 yrs. old and a page at the beginning of ATFA
- Alexander of Tirragen- a page (and a “mathematical wizard”) when Alanna arrives, he becomes Duke Roger’s squire.
- Ali Mukhtab- a Bazhir, governor of Persopolis Castle
- Captain Aram Sklaw- head of the palace guard, Aram is “a hard- bitten old mercenary with a patch over his missing eye”. He teaches fencing.
- Duke Baird- the Chief Healer at the Palace
- Black God- God over Death
- Lady Catherine- Alanna and Thom’s Godmother, a noble lady who is cruel to her servants. Alanna and Thom make her see ghosts when she comes to Trebond to get Lord Alan to marry her.
- Chubby- Alanna’s pony
- Coram Smythesson- Helps to raise Alanna and Thom, teaches her the rudiments of the fighting arts, and acts as Alanna’s manservant while she’s at the castle
- Dark Goddess- “The Great mother Goddess”
- Darkness- Jonathan’s horse
- Daughters of the Goddess- train younger boys in magic
- Douglass of Veldine- A page at the castle when Alanna first arrives
- Eleni Cooper- George’s mother and a healer, she was a priestess in the Temple of the Mother before she married
- Francis of Nond- described as “Raoul’s shy blond shadow” he is killed by the sweating sickness, spurring Alanna to use her gift for healing.
- Gareth of Naxen (Gary)- Alanna’s sponsor when she first arrives at the palace
- Duke Gareth of Naxen-
- Geoffrey of Meron- a fellow page who learns the sword with her
- George Cooper- 17 in the beginning of ATFA, George is the King of the Thieves, Master of the Court of the Rogue, and Alanna’s friend. He teaches her hand fighting.
- Jonathan- The crown prince of Tortall, A page when Alanna first arrives at the palace, becomes a squire.
- Queen Lianne- Jonathan’s mother
- Lightening- Alanna's sword
- Lord Provost-
- Martin of Meron- Geoffrey’s father, and lord over Fief Meron, aka the Great Southern Desert, home of the Bazhir.
- Maude- village healer at Trebond, teaches Alanna and Thom all that she knows of magic before they go off
- Moonlight- Alanna’s horse, bought for her by George
- Myles of Olau- a scholar as well as a knight, Myles teaches the history of Tortall, and the history of warfare… he is also the “court drunk”.
- Ralon of Malven- 14 in ATFA, Ralon is Alanna’s first enemy and a bully. Ralon is defeated in a fight, and goes home in disgrace.
- Ranulf- Myles’ major domo
- Raoul of Goldenlake-
- Rispah- Queen of the ladies who follow the Rogue.
- King Roald- “the peacemaker” he is Jonathan’s Father
- Duke Roger of Contè- Jonathan’s Cousin, he is a powerful magician, and Alanna’s greatest enemy.
- Lady Roxanne- One of the queen’s ladies, Gary kisses her for a bet of 10 nobles.
- Sacharell of Wellam- Alanna fights her first duel against him and fails miserably
- Solom- the innkeeper at the Dancing Dove (home of the Court of the Rogue).
- Stefan- Hostler in the Royal stables, and a servant of George
- Thom- Alanna’s twin brother, switches places with her to learn to be a mage
- Timon- servant of Duke Gareth
- Ylandra- One of the Ysandir, desdribed as a woman with claws.
- Ylira- One of the Ysandir, described as a woman dressed in Red
- Ylon- Black-bearded chief of the Ysandir
- Ysandir- evil demons who Jon and Alanna fight at the end of the book
