They were the darkest clouds you saw;
Nay, so dark that they were the light
Those clouds that were so dark;
Those clouds that ruined our night.
The shrillest winds you heard;
So shrill they outdid the birds
Those winds that were so shrill;
Those winds that spoke those words.
And the worst scent you smelled;
‘Twas more bitter than foul crime
The smell that sent us crying;
The scent encased in rhyme.
The coldest air you felt;
The fire so burning cold;
That air that froze our fingers;
The air that was so bold.
The worst ordeal we’ve had;
Battered, scared – close to death
Our senses longed for a rest;
Such pain in every breath.
Such an ordeal we’ve never had;
We hope to never go again
Please save us from that storm;
And please don’t call again.
