Note: Disregard of the following may result in a formal strike against you based on our three-strikes-boot rule at the discretion of the Roleplay Heads and Administrators. We're not joking.
Player Rules
- Both in character and out of character, members are expected to use proper English spelling and grammar to the best of their abilities. Excessive leet or netspeak is strictly prohibited, though common abbreviations (brb, b, wb, fyi, btw, etc.) are acceptable in Out Of Character speech.
- In the chatroom, all out-of-character (OOC) conversations must take place in some form of parentheses: ( ), [ ], or { }. All in-character (IC) speech is typed normally.
- All IC and OOC actions are marked off with *asterisks*. All actions are written in third person present tense, usually without pronouns at the beginning of an action. As such, what might appear in the chatroom when someone enters:
[Bob] (*gets her keyboard back* Hi, everyone!) *wanders into the inn with his hands in his pockets, glancing around with eyebrows raised, whistling off-key* Could I get an ale, somebody?
- Romance in moderation is fine, but anything graphic, excessive, or nauseating to other players should be taken to another room. See the Content Guidelines.
- When roleplaying, your handle in the chat must be your character's name, or the name they are most commonly known as.
- Excessive profanity is not tolerated. See the Content Guidelines.
- If you have a plot planned, please post it on the RP message board or as an OOC post in the sschars LiveJournal community. If you need any help with this, feel free to ask.
- As much as is possible, it is asked that the Steelsings world keep to the boundaries set out by the books. This means no introducing a lady knight during Kel's training years, inventing a war with Tyra during the Daine books, inventing a new country near Galla, etc.
- Be friendly and hospitable to all members, but please make an extra effort to be welcoming and helpful to newbies.
- Godmodding (deciding another character's actions, without prior consent of that character's player) is strictly forbidden.
- If you have a conflict with another player that cannot be resolved or ignored, take it to a mentor or Roleplay Head for mediation. Fighting, back-biting, rumor-spreading or anything else of this nature will not be tolerated in the chat.
- Steelsings plays by a rule known in shorthand as ICA=ICC. This means "In character actions mean in character consequences." This means that if your character gets him or herself into serious trouble, you must play it through, because it is realistic that he or she faces consequences of his or her actions. Exceptions will be made A) in the case of Rule 13, and B) if you believe another player is incorrect and there is another realistic route for your character to follow. If this is the case, discuss the situation with a mentor, who will make the decision.
- A character can only be killed with the express, prior consent of that character's puppet master. If a player asks that her character not be killed, that character cannot be killed.
- Steelsings operates a number of specific rules about characters and character creation. These are subject to change and can be found as a separate list of character rules here.
- The Steelsings roleplay is open only to those over the age of 13 years. Anyone younger is not permitted to join.
Player Rights
- The right to be treated with dignity and respect. Any member who feels that they are being mocked or mistreated in a way that goes against the rules has the right to speak up and tell the person who is making them uncomfortable to stop.
- The right to roleplay in a comfortable environment. Steelsings is a PG-13 environment. Any member has the right to request that any content that breaks that rule or the spirit of that rule be moved to another chatroom. However, Steelsings does not tolerate discrimination. No action will be judged inappropriate purely because of the race, religious views, or sexual orientation of the characters involved. See the Content Guidelines.
- The right to reasonably control one's own character. Every member has the right to dictate her character's own movements, thoughts, and emotions. No one else can decide a character's actions or history for them. In a fight, a player has the right to decide how their character is affected. A character may only be killed if that character's player gives direct and explicit permission for them to die. This rule holds it in good faith that all players will know what is a reasonable result of any event in a roleplay.
- The right to ask mentors for help. Any new member has the right to ask a mentor for help or information without being ridiculed. A list of the current mentors can be found here.
- The right to take any mentor decision to the administrators. Any member has the right to take the decision of any mentor in the chatrooms to the RP Heads or the site administrator, with the understanding that they will abide by any decision made unanimously by the Heads and the Administrator.
