Roleplay Timeline

by Lis and others

This timeline covers the whole time that the Steelsings Roleplay has been running and should give you an idea of just how much drama we've managed to pack into the last decade! It's also a handy reference to who's held the crown and major events in the inn's life.

This isn't meant to be a comprehensive list of everything that's ever happened and we've tried to keep it to the big sweeping drama that's affected the whole game. If we didn't, the timeline would go on for pages. If you really feel that something important is missing, please contact us and we'll try to add it for you.

This timeline only covers the events of the roleplay, with some references to canon history to show how the roleplay fits into the books. A comprehensive timeline of Tortallan history can be found here if you want more information.

452 HE
-The Immortals War ends (end of In the Realms of the Gods)

455 HE (1997 AD)
-Steelsings is founded? (Nobody quite remembers)

456 HE (1998 AD)
-Emily, a peasant from Trebond, takes over the Rogue and becomes Queen Emily.

-Keladry of Mindelan's third year as a page

457 HE (1999 AD)

Squire begins; Keladry of Mindelan becomes a squire.

- The Divine Realms Inn is burned down and after moving to Keiran's manor for a time, the Gods give the Rogue a new inn (the Divine Realms II) that cannot be set on fire.

458 HE (2000 AD)

Please note that there are currently no exact dates for when the following events occoured, other than that it was sometime during Queen Emily's reign.

- Emily is kidnapped by the crown and hanged. Another Rogue, Milena, takes over the crown, but only lasts several months before vanishing. (It was later discovered she'd died in a fire. She actually survived, but passed off as dead due to severe physical and emotional scarring. She didn't feel capable of facing her people again.)

-There are several months of chaos, but two longstanding Rogues, Astrid and Meredith, sieze the regency and hold onto it, valiantly fighting the decline of the Tortallan Mafia.

-Their efforts are richly rewarded when Em, who had only faked her death for the sake of retirement, returns, extremely disgusted with what has been done to her court and takes back the crown.

459 HE (2001 AD)

460 HE (2002 AD)

-Spring: Emily abdicates the Rogue for good and passes the crown onto Blaire Adriansra, a K'miri horsethief/assassin.

Keladry of Mindelan's final year as a squire. She faces one of the killing machines in the north.

-September: After a brief tenure as Queen, Blaire abdicates, returning home to Port Udayapur; in the resulting scuffle, the crown goes to Elsha Creshan, an assassin/smuggler from Berat, Maren.

Squire ends.

461 HE (2003 AD)

Lady Knight begins.

-March: When Dray Damente is kidnapped, most of the Rogue are stunned to find that Elsha had been concealing both her marriage to him and her pregnancy for the duration of her reign. She holds power for only a few more weeks before passing the crown on to Rallon Fyrepride, a Corus swordsmith, saying, "Take the job, and I hope it kills you." She stays in Corus to raise a family, getting clemency from a temple. Last that anyone heard, she was a lawyer-priestess to the Goddess with no sense of irony.

-October: A Corus gang, the rivals, begin waging war on the Rogue for supremacy of the Corus underworld. They attack Rogue members, harass Rogue-affiliated gangs, begin brawls with Rogue members, and leave the body of an NPC Rogue in the stables of the Divine Realms Inn with roses pinned all over her.

-December: King Jonathan publishes a decree forbidding association with any gang involved in the feud, in an attempt to calm the violence in the Lower City. That same day Meredith, who was a Queen Regent under Emily some years prior, goes to Rallon asking to be freed of all her obligations to the Rogue. They fight, and she threatens to break the Rogue's Law to end the fighting and win her freedom. He demands her ear, so she leaves the Inn, furious. Meredith then goes directly to the Roses and shares with them years of valuable information about the Rogue. When Rallon discovers she's betrayed them, he cuts off her hand. She marries Kieran, a noble courtier, and is safely out of Rallon's reach before he discovers the true extent of her treachery.

-The Roses kidnap Queen Thayet and frame Rallon for it; he is seized by the Provost along with Corvus, the leader of a Rogue-allied gang, the Thorns.

462 HE (2004 AD)

Trickster's Choice begins

-January: The Rogues stage a rescue of Corvus and Elsha, now an apprentice lawyer, gains access to Rallon's cell. Rallon forbids the Rogues to rescue him at all, and orders them to find Queen Thayet and return her safely, and fail at their peril. They do, and in the ensuing fight kill nearly all the Roses. On returning to the Divine Realms they find one remaining Rose, Carri; she is bound to the Rogue by blood-oath.

-In hiding from the Crown and extant Roses, and in mourning for their leader, the Rogues choose Asreena Trillblade, a Carthaki assassin.

-July: It's discovered that Rallon isn't dead after all. He struck a bargain with the Crown: since the Rogue were innocent, he would be permitted to live so long as Thayet was returned. However, to pacify the people crying out for blood, a body spelled to look like Rallon would be killed in public display, to show that justice had been done. This does over quite badly with most Rogues, and Rallon leaves Corus during the autumn months.

463 HE (2005 AD)

-Spring: Asreena Trillblade became pregnant, and abdicated the Crown in favour of Uneven Pete, the previous Rogue of Caynn.

-September: Tortallan inheritance laws change so that instead of the eldest male inheriting, the eldest child inherits, regardless of gender.

-Winter: Uneven Pete decides to leave Corus, passing the crown to Renee Defleur.

464 HE (2006 AD)

-April: Having created many enemies in her short reign, a contract is taken out on Renee Defleur and she is apparently assassinated in the inn. The crown passes back to Uneven Pete who then hands it on to Farnu Maderas.

-Autumn: Lashana an Chiara returns to Corus after a long absence with the intention of killing the Rogue and taking the crown, but ultimately changes her mind and taking the position of Second and Chief of Mages.

465 HE (2007 AD)

- May: Lashana an Chiara leaves Corus for Galla.

- June: Farnu Maderas decides to leave Corus and passes the crown to Joffrey Hondzey. Within a fortnight, Lucian Reid, a former Provost's Guard, attacks the inn with hired mercenaries. He defeats Joffrey and takes the crown for himself. Joffrey is not killed, but is instead kept in the basement and sedated with dreamrose.

- July: By breaking an amulet that Lucian found on Joffrey's person, he inadvertently summons Lashana an Chiara back to Corus from Galla. She then proceeds to form a rebel faction, gathering followers who were both loyal to Shana and Joffrey as well as rogues who had fallen out of favour with Lucian. She prepares to take the crown from him. Farnu Maderas is among those who return to Corus to fight Lucian, bringing those still loyal to him to the rebel cause.

- The rebels liberate Joffrey and take him to the Inn of the Three-Legged-Horse where the Rebels are based.

- It is also revealed that Renee Defleur was not actually killed, but instead her apparent death was a carefully constructed rouse to enable Renee and Kaelin Tai'Venn to leave Corus for their own safety. They returned together after having killed the man who instigated the contract on Renee's life.

- August: Lucian kidnaps a heavily pregnant Zayra Cobbler in order to ensure that her partner Darryl Clayson remains loyal to him. The Rogues and Rebels meet at a ball and Farnu cuts off Lucian's right ear.

- October: Lucian is finally captured by the rebels.
