Please bear in mind that we do not recommend playing a character who is an experienced fighter if you yourself know nothing about fighting.
What all fighters should know
- The guard stance. A posture in which the weight is evenly distributed and the body is firmly set. Allows the fighter to hop from foot to foot and better evade blows.
- The fighter's crouch. Another guard stance, a crouch close to the ground. Allows the fighter to stay on their feet and block attacks with their arms.
What all fighters must be capable of
- The basic punch; jab. Very easily blocked.
- The reverse punch.
- The hooking punch; right hook, left hook.
- The uppercut.
- The front kick; most basic.
- The side kick, aimed for the side of the head or ribs.
- An upper block, for blows aimed at the head.
- A lower block, for blows aimed towards the legs.
What only trained fighters would know
- The back punch; knuckle collision with the side of the head.
- The ridge hand; usually aimed for the temple or throat.
- The palm heel strike; can seriously wound or cause death.
- The axe kick, most effective against shorter opponents. Leg is swung up and aimed for opponent's head or shoulder muscle.
- Double side kick; much like the normal sidekick, but a double attack.
- Roundhouse kick; kicking leg furls up and out while the torso leans toward the ground.
- A sweep; fighter drops and rotates with one leg out to sweep their opponent off their feet.
What your character would know after years of training
- Jumping punches. More power, the fighter jumps forward.
- Knife hand strike; open hand stabbing towards solar plexus or throat.
- Dropping reverse punch; literally dropping on a fallen opponent with a punch.
- Jumping front snap kick; bringing one knee up and then jumping, reversing legs and kicking out.
- Jumping axe kick; much like the axe kick, except it involves a jump.
- Jumping side kick; much like the side kick, except it involves a jump.
A few things to remember! Before using these for your characters, remember their strengths, weaknesses, and levels of training. A character with a bad knee won't be performing jumping axe kicks, and neither will a character who's fighting for the first time. And people over 50 probably won't be fighting at all.
We did not put up this tutorial so that you could use it on others, so don't try it. You'll probably hurt yourself. If you would like to see a more detailed, complex tutorial on all of the moves mentioned above, click here.
